The Inspector (Desktop)

The Inspector allows you to view and edit information for the selected item(s), regardless of which other views you have open. If multiple items are selected, only values that are common between all selected items will be shown, and any changes you make will apply to all items.

The Inspector will be open by default when you create a new timeline, but it can be collapsed and expanded by clicking on the Inspector icon  in the Toolbar.

  • The type you select changes where an item can be displayed (e.g. is it allowed in the timeline or narrative), what relationships it can have, and what additional data can be recorded for it (e.g. whether it can have a date or values for certain properties).
  • You will be warned if data will be erased by changing an item's type.
Color Allocating individual colors to each item can provide a visual indicator to help you separate items into different groups. Each color can be given a specific label in Timeline Settings, allowing you to create your own meaning with your choice of colors.
Parent The Parent dropdown allows you to specify the selected item's parent. By giving an item a parent, the selected item will be nested underneath that item within the chronological order in the Timeline, Spreadsheet and Relationship Views, or within a relevant Entity Panel on the
