Settings: Data Types
Item Types
The different item types available to choose from in your settings will depend on the template you chose when you initially create your timeline.
Different item types will be visible in different templates. For example, the fiction template will have the option of including 'Flashback', 'Flash Forward', 'Story Arc' and 'Backstory' items. These item types are particular to fiction writing and will allow you to create a nuanced and specific timeline for your story.
Conversely, when you use a different template, the 'Legal' template for example, there will be different item types like 'Cross Examination', 'Testimony', 'Party' and 'Organisation' that will be helpful particularly for mapping legal cases.
Item types are categorized as Events, People, Locations, and Other. You can enable or disable item types depending on what types are relevant to your timeline, as well as set the default item type that is used when creating new items in chronological or narrative orders.
Clicking on the Edit button in this section will allow you to further customize your timeline's item types in the advanced settings.
Relationship Types
You can also customise what kind of relationships items can have to other items. As with item types, the different relationships available to choose from in your settings will depend on the template you chose when you initially create your timeline.
For example, the fiction template will have the option of including 'Observer' and 'Participant' relationships between Event and Character item types, and relationships such as 'Friend' and 'Family' between Characters items. When you use a different template such the 'Project Management' template, there will be different relationship types like 'Assigned' and 'Supervisor' relationships between Task and People item types.
To streamline your timeline to make it specific to your personal needs, you can enable or disable relationships depending on what types are relevant to your document.
Clicking on the Edit button in this section will allow you to further customize your timeline's relationship types in the advanced settings.
Properties
You then have the option of customising what type of properties items in your timeline can have. As with item types, the different properties available to choose from in your settings will depend on the template you chose when you initially create your timeline.
Choosing which properties are enabled in your timeline allows you to cut out fields that may be unnecessary, and ultimately streamline your experience using Aeon Timeline.
Clicking on the Edit button in this section will allow you to further customize your timeline's properties in the advanced settings.
